Techni-100
Application
GENERAL
REQUIREMENTS
Refer
to all instruction and other
sections of this specification to
determine the type and extent of
work therein affecting the work of
this section, whether or not such
work is specifically mentioned
herein.
Design
and Detailing a Techni 100 System.
·
The system
shall be installed in strict
accordance with current
recommended published details and
product specifications from the
system’s manufacturer.
·
The use of
dark colors must be considered in
relation to wall surface
temperature as a function of local
climate conditions.
·
Minimum
slope for all projections shall be
1:2 with a maximum length of 30.5
cm (12"), unless other
manufacturer-approved detailing is
shown on the construction
documents.
Acceptable
substrates
·
Water-resistant core
exterior grade gypsum sheathing
ASTM C1396, Dens-Glass Gold®
sheathing ASTM C1177, Aqua Tough
Sheathing ASTM C1278, with 4.5
oz/yd2 Fiber Glass
Mesh.
·
Fiberboard
ANSI/AHA A 194-85, Plywood
complying with US DOC PS 1-95,
oriented strand board complying
with US DOC PS 2-95 With Dupont
Stucco Wrap and 2.5 # Galvanized
Mesh.
ICF
(Insulated Concrete forms) with
4.5 oz/yd2 Fiber Glass
Mesh
·
Painted and
otherwise coated surfaces of
brick, unit masonry, stucco and
concrete shall be inspected with
professional applicator before
application.
·
The
applicator shall verify that the
proposed substrate is acceptable
prior to the Techni-100 System
installation.
Design
Requirements
·
The
substrate systems shall be
engineered with regard to
structural performance.
·
Structure
to be designed in such a way as to
minimize the transfer of stress
from building movements to
Techni-100 system.
Environmental
Requirements
·
Product
shall be stored away from direct
sun light and protected from
freezing.
·
Protect
surrounding areas and surfaces
during the application of the
system.
·
The system
shall be protected when work
ceases for the day or when an area
is completed so that water will
not infiltrate the system.
·
Tops of the
walls must be immediately covered
to avoid water infiltration. To
protect the system, copings or
flashings shall be installed as
soon as possible after the finish
coat of the system has been
applied.
·
All
sealants shall be installed in a
timely manner.
·
Sufficient
labor and equipment must be
employed to ensure a continuous
operation, free of cold joints,
scaffolding lines, etc.
Limitations
·
Do not use
on flat horizontal surfaces
exposed to weather. Sloped
surfaces must have a minimum slope
of 6:12. Not recommended
for large sloping surfaces greater
than 12".
·
Do not use
as a roof finish.
·
Apply only
when ambient and substrate
temperatures will be at least 40°
F (4° C) and higher for at least
24 hours.
·
Do not
apply in direct sunlight. Applying
in sunlight may result in cold
joints or color variations.
Protect from rain for at least 24
hours.
·
Do not
apply directly to exterior
sheathing. Consult MCT Technical
for approval for any applications
not listed in this Product
Installation.
Mixing
· Techni-
100 comes premixed from the
factory. At the time of use, stir
the finish thoroughly to
redistribute the aggregate.
·
For best
results, stir at 300-500 rpm,
using a heavy-duty ½”
drill with a four point blade
Mixer.
·
Techni-100
does not require thinning.
Application
Surface
Preparation
Substrates
must be sound and free of paint,
dirt, grease, oil, efflorescence,
form release agents and curing
compound
Equipment:
Trowel and
Hopper gun type spray equipment or
proven pump equipment.
Application
Procedure
·
Apply
4.5-oz/yd2
self-adhesive fiberglass mesh
directly to ICF Foam.
·
Apply
Techni 100 as a Base Coat directly
to Reinforcing Mesh with trowel to
cover mesh completely.
·
Apply and
level Finish Coat during same
operation to minimum obtainable
thickness consistent with uniform
coverage.
·
Maintain a
clean edge on trowel by applying
and texturing continually over the
wall surface.
·
To achieve
final texture apply Techni 100
desired finish (Fine, Medium,
Coarse) with trowel, hopper gun,
and approved pump equipment. Use a
circular motion when spraying
Techni 100.
·
Applying
with hopper gun, use a circular
overlapping pattern, keeping the
spray gun at a 90° angle to the
surface and maintaining the same
distance to the surface at all
times. Be cautious of flooding an
area with too much finish because
it may appear shinier when it
dries.
·
Important:
Always maintain a clean edge. To
avoid unsightly color variations
or visible lines, apply finish
continually up to corners, joints
or other natural breaks, and do
not allow finish to stop or set up
within an unbroken wall surface.
·
Protect
from rain and from temperatures
less than 50° F for 24 hours.
Provide longer protection as
necessary during lower
temperatures and/or higher
humidity conditions.
·
Apply
DuPont stucco wrap®
Install Air Barrier over exterior
side of exterior wall sheathing
1.
Install Air
Barrier after sheathing is
installed and before windows and
doors are installed. Install
with drainage plane surface
pattern in vertical position for
proper draining. Install
lower level barrier prior to upper
layers to ensure proper shingling
of layers.
2.
Overlap
Air Barrier at corners of building
by a minimum of 12 inches.
3.
Overlap Air
Barrier vertical seams
by a minimum of 6 inches.
4.
Ensure
barrier is plum and level with
foundation, and unroll extending
Air Barrier over window and door
openings.
5..
Ensure
barrier is applied over back edge
of weep screed for proper water
drainage.
6.
Attach Air
Barrier to wood, insulated
sheathing board or exterior gypsum
with plastic cap nails every 12”
to 18” on vertical stud line
with wood stud framing, and screws
with washers to metal stud
framing. When attaching to
masonry, use adhesive recommended
by manufacturer.
7.
Prepare
window and door rough openings as
follows:
a.
Prepare
each window rough opening by
cutting a modified “I” pattern
in the Air Barrier.
1.
Horizontally
cut Air Barrier along bottom of
header.
2.
Vertically
cut Air Barrier down the center of
window openings from the top
of the window opening down to 2/3
of the way to the bottom of the
window openings.
3.
Diagonally
cut Air Barrier from the bottom of
the vertical cut to the left and
right corners of opening.
4.
Fold side
and bottom flaps into window
opening and fasten every 6 inches.
Trim off excess.
b.
Prepare
each rough door opening by cutting
a standard “I” pattern in the
Air Barrier.
1.
Horizontally
cut Air Barrier along bottom of
door frame header and along top of
sill.
2.
Vertically
cut Air Barrier down the center of
door openings from the top of
the door opening (header) down to
the bottom of the door opening
(sill).
3.
Fold side
flaps inside around door openings
and fasten every 6 inches. Trim
off excess.
8.
Tape all
horizontal and vertical seam of
Air Barrier with DuPont™ Tyvek®
Tape.
9.
Seal all
tears and cuts in Air Barrier with
DuPont™ Tyvek® Tape.
